No one can whistle a symphony: The importance of business collaboration

The title of today’s blog comes from one of our favourite quotes by the Methodist Minister, Halford Edward Luccock, “No one can whistle a symphony, it takes a whole orchestra to play it”. For us, as an independent business, this philosophy is probably more relevant in these *uncertain times. We believe that at this moment in time, especially for independent business owners, that we need to form networks of pro-active, positive and supportive people in order to develop and grow our businesses.

Since we have been in business, circa 1984, we have always collaborated and formed partnerships with other independent companies, e.g. photographers, flower growers, suppliers of sundries, event and wedding planners, restaurant owners, hotels, fashion outlets and designers. We have mutually supported each other in terms of: client referrals, interacting on social media, attending events with them, collaborating on promotions and marketing, as well as maintaining open communication. These relationships have not only helped us to grow as a business but also given our clients the best service possible. In fact, on a number of levels, it has always been in the best interest of all collaborators to pull together in the same direction as this provided a seamless service for the client, was less stressful and ensured that each collaboration was an enjoyable experience for everyone.

We recently had the pleasure of collaborating on a birthday event here in the Algarve with three independent businesses with whom we have never worked with before. *This event should have happened back in March but had to be postponed, which was upsetting for the birthday girl of course. Therefore, it was essential that all collaborators worked well together to create an extra special evening that the guests would remember for years to come.

The company that did all the ground work for this event was, ARW Weddings and Events. ARW provides a wedding and event management service throughout Portugal. Their expertise lies in the planning and execution of luxury destination weddings, as well as designing and producing private events and product launches. No event is ever to small or too large (www.arwweddingsandevents.com).

We obviously supplied the flowers and on this occasion we are so grateful to the photographer, João Cabrita Silva, for capturing our arrangements on film so beautifully. João’s professional philosophy is all about connections between the photographer and the photographed. Whether he is working on an aspect of nature or a personal event, João truly captures the emotion, culture and essence of his subjects (www.joaocabritasilva.myportfolio.com).

We would like to thank all our new collaborators for making this day so successful. It puts us in mind of the famous quote by Helen Keller “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”. We look forward to working with you all again.

*At the time of writing these words Portugal, along with many other countries are dusting themselves down after a three month lock down due to the Covid 19 virus. No one has been able to live, work, socialise or travel in the usual manner.
